My own shoe designs

I've mentioned before what I think of the Australian shoe market, and that I really long to be a shoe designer. And so I have some news. I've found what I think will be a great manufacturer, though I'm yet to meet them. Fingers crossed I think they can do a good job.

Buy of the day!

Buy of the day!

Chie Mihara is probably one of my favourite designers at the moment, and I'm really impressed with the styles and use of colour and proportion. Chie is a Japanese lady born in Brazil. Her impressive collection dwells on style and comfort, an important factor!

Check out these gorgeous mary janes (think i'm finally obsessed with mary janes) from Shopbop!

Sruli Recht

Ex-Melbourne designer, Sruli Recht is now based in Iceland. After completing fashion at RMIT in 2002, Recht moved overseas to pursue his passion.

Sruli Recht has launched his first collection of Sruli Recht Shoes for 2008. To visit, touch and smell each one of his creations, check out the tour list here.

An excerpt taken from an article in Indesign Magazine...

From marketing a pair of his shoes ‘for throat-cutting thieves’ to moving to Iceland, the actions of ex-Melbourne fashion designer, Sruli Recht are what make the man.

Reykjavík, Iceland is an unusual place to find ex-Melbourne designer, Sruli Recht. But after leaving the London studio of Alexander McQueen, he was keen to track down composer Ben Frost.

“This man’s sound is like the sonic resonance of my design. I found the environment such an amazing change from London, the warmth of the people, the great water, breathable air and a physical landscape that caught me by surprise.

I felt grounded, here, for the first time in my life.” says Sruli.

And his designs... well they are amazing...

I love the grey nurse button up ankle boot...

The detail and shape of the boot are very intelligent and will suit a man who is fashionable but not frivolous. A Melbourne man at heart indeed.

Buying shoes in the wrong size!

Do you do it?

I must admit I generally don't because I feel that shoes are meant to be, or they are not meant to be!

I recently bought one pair that I was inbetween sizes and successfully stretched them enough to be comfortable. They probably only stretched about 1/2 a size, if that much at all.

What are you experiences?

For those dreaming of winter time treats

In Winter, I love nothing more than wrapping myself in pretty pyjamas and slippers that keep my feet warm but add a certain something to my ‘lounging around’ outfit. The doona (duvet/quilt/blanket), chocolate and my favourite TV show... normally a DVD boxset. It’s bliss.

So where to buy those coveted things we call ‘sleepwear’ and 'loungewear'? The animal print or striped pyjama set or nanna-like nighties can be found just about anywhere... But don’t you want something as unique and original as you?

I found it!

Slumbergirldesigns is a UK based seller on Etsy. If you don’t know Etsy, shame on you! It’s basically a online shop for everything handmade by artsy types all over the world.

Slumbergirldesigns, or Ingrid, studied pattern cutting and dressmaking at college in Holland. A 23 year old who has been sewing for 8 years, now living in the UK has started a business to satisfy her desire to make sleepwear and loungewear.

What's better than a doona/duvet/quilt for your feet? Nothing!!

Check out her store on Etsy now!

Buy of the day!

Another buy of the day, and because I couldn't choose, here are two again!

Because my loyal readers have such unique styles, I know I must feature the new, the different and the easily accessable.

Tom's slipons; famous around the world. But a touch of metallic will take you right back to dreamtime. $US48 from Tobi...

Or maybe you are a classic Italian at heart... Love glamour, colour and standing out? Missoni pumps in a print lovers dream. $US600 from Revolve Clothing...

I love your comments so please feel free to write about anything at all.

(thanks for the tip on my error Anon)

Sometimes I like to write about fashion in general instead of just shoes... My newest style favourite is Daisy Lowe. WhoWhatWearDaily did a feature on Daisy a few months ago.

New York City fashion boutique Gargyle has a new online shop. Some really interesting items including of course, great shoes for women and men.

Put on your dancing shoes!!

Just when you thought Repetto had collaborated all it could, the iconic dance brand celebrated its 60th anniversary back in October by tapping 60 fashion figures—from Marc Jacobs and Helmut Lang to Brigitte Bardot and Kirsten Dunst—to design ballet slippers, jazz or pointe shoes, or tutus. The collection went on the road as a traveling exhibition, 30 pieces of which just landed at Chelsea’s Max Lang Gallery today. The Proenza Schouler duo dressed a pair of Zizi lace-ups in crushed gold silk, Catherine Deneuve added a pink tulle touch to classic flats, and Comme des Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo dipped the blithe fabric in black, white, and sky blue to trim a procession of artful tutus. Pirouette your way there while you can because the collection is on to Bergdorf Goodman’s window on January 15th, then London, Montreal, and abroad, before culminating in an auction in Paris to benefit the United Nations-partnered Repetto Foundation that supports dance schools in Brazil, South Africa, and Cuba.

Buy of the day!

Two buys today! Those who like vintage are in for a treat!

Modcloth is a great online shop featuring new and vintage items for your house, body, feet and to adorn yourself with. I.e. clothing, shoes and jewellery/accessories.

The French Pastry heels are divine.

Heels inspired by pastry? Oh that's just what we need, and more of it. Fashion should be fun! The multicoloured pintuck bow and matching multicolour heel styled harmoniously with a multicoloured dress would be just so fine!

Note these shoes are very narrow, and are missing taps on both heels so will need a little repair.

Bows are my thing! So what about a bow tie mary jane?

Navy blue leather is normally reserved for nurses, but the mary jane style and bow detail make these shoes 'so hot right now'. A perfect bow covers a small elastic segment along the mary jane front, while curved and cut-out details complete the rest of the shoe. Utterly elegant, with an easy to wear 2.5 inch heel.

Snap to it ladies!

Buy of the day!

From now on every (working) day I'm going to feature a pair of shoes you could purchase as I think it's a fun way to get the number of posts I write to increase!

So today's buy of the day is Giuseppe Zanotti

The design features a concealed platform (design feature favourite of mine!) and a subtle peeptoe. Red and black features with a laquered, stacked heel. Leather lined and leather sole. 4"heel, Made in Italy.

If outfits don't automatically form in your mind, I think these shoes would be perfect with
  • Jeans; black or blue
  • The Little Black Dress
  • Denim Skirt
  • Black Skirt

I want these shoes....

(thanks to Yvan for the pic from Facehunter)

New year...

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to all my lovely readers! I have had some time off work and as such stayed away from the computer.

Everyone knows I love Urban Outfitters, and I regularly search the site for a new pair of shoes to dream about. This morning's search found the Dolce Vita Maime Mary Jane. The prettiest mary jane in contrasting black and cream. Perfect in summer or winter, opaque stockings, fine hosiery or bare legs.
